Abstract

The contractile effects of oxytocin, prostagladin F2a and norepinephrine on the uterus have been well known. The effects of estrogen and indomethacin on these contractions were observed in the nonpregnant rabbit uterus strip using physiograph obtaining following results.
1. Oxytocin nad prostaglandin F2a revealed contractile effects on the nonpregnant rabbit uterus, but supress them when the concentration exceed a certain point. For norepinephr¡þine, on the other hand, the supression in high concentration was not distinct.
2. In the nonpregnant rabbit uterus which had been treated with estrogen in vivo, the supression in high concentration was not distinct for oxytocin, prostaglandin F2a and norepinephrine.
3. The contractile effects of oxytocin and prostaglandin F2a on the nonpregnant rabbit uterus revealed increased tonus and contractility when estrogen treated in vivo.
4. The contractile effects of oxytocin and prostaglandin F2a on the nonpregnant rabbit uterus reduced when indomethacin treated in vivo.
The results for the estrogen treated group were the same.
5. Indomethacin did not supress the norepinephrine induced contraction of the nonpreg¡þnant rabbit uterus.
